The former Bideford railway goods yard gave Torridge District Council the opportunity to develop a prominent riverside site for flats and sheltered housing for the elderly. The scheme aims to reflect the character of Bideford, much of whose life is related to river and coastal traffic, and of fishing villages in the South-west. Buildings are disposed along the narrow site so as to give each flat a river view and create a varied sequence of public garden spaces along a new riverside promenade. Full advantage has been taken of views to the south towards the historic bridge and west to the working quay and town.
